DEI Except It's Diversion, Exclusivity and Injustice
The Trump Administration's Big Smokescreen
Since Payless Putin took office last month, it feels like there’s a new outrage every goddamn day. From executive orders that seek to negate established science1 to blaming a multi-fatality mid-air collision on DEI initiatives2, we’re getting jerked from one affront to another with little time to process a thought, much less mount an effective defense. I’ve got a feeling that this is exactly the point. I mean, think about it, it's hard to be coherent when you're constantly pissed off.
What’s Their Game?
While we're busy fighting to protect something as basic as a transperson's right to exist, Tangerine Hitler and his flunkies are trying to freeze/eliminate federal spending3, illegally fire federal workers4, and offer a buyout to federal employees (that is fraught with legal concerns)5. Those are bad, to be sure. But they pale in comparison to Musk's seizing control of the government’s payment systems6 and his assault on the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)7 . According to Musk, USAID is a “criminal organization” that is “beyond repair” and it’s “(t)ime for it to die.” In this process, the DOGE team working on the “project” was able to access classified material they did not have the clearance to see. In doing so, they apparently plugged insecure computers into the USAID system and compromised our entire intelligence system, prompting cybersecurity expert Matthew Garrett to ask “Who else has access to those systems?”8 Are we fucked? Probably. It remains to be seen how badly, though.
Pay No Attention To That Man Behind the Curtain
All this anti-trans/DEI stuff is a smokescreen meant to distract us as the danger yam and his lackeys dismantle the federal government, toss out equality under the law, and steal as much as they can. Understand that we're not talking about a victorious fascist regime attempting to mold the government to its evil purposes. No, this is more like a bunch of meth-heads stripping all the copper out of the walls so they can get their next fix. And, not giving a fuck who they hurt in the process. This shit is particularly insidious because, even though we see it for what it is, we can't just wave it away. Doing that means abandoning the most vulnerable among us.
Right now, you may be wondering how to temper your outrage to both stand up for them and call out this fascist attack on our way of life. And, the answer is, I don’t know. I do know, however, that we can’t allow these shitweasels to waste our time, energy, and sanity by reacting to every bit of vile garbage they throw out. Not if we want to make it to 2028 even remotely intact, that is. So, for now, guard yourself and your loved ones as much as you can and keep fighting the good fight in whatever way works for you. If I come up with anything to help, I’ll let you know.
